Si fa il Segno della Croce, si recita l'Atto di dolore , e dopo la seguente preghiera introduttiva:
Signore mio Gesù Cristo, Tu che percorresti con amore infinito la via verso il Calvario, per redimermi dai peccati con i quali ti ho offeso, dammi, ti supplico, la grazia di meditare con vero dolore tutto ciò che soffristi per me.
Maria Santissima, Mater Dolorosa, insegnami ad avere i sentimenti che tu hai avuto nella Passione di tuo Figlio, affinché così possa imparare nel libro della Croce l'arte di amare Dio. Amen.
Per ogni stazione:

V: Ti adoriamo, o Cristo, e ti benediciamo!
R: Perché con la tua Santa Croce hai redento il mondo.
Si fa la lettura corrispondente.
Si lascia un breve silenzio.

V: Signore, abbi pietà di noi!
R: Perché abbiamo peccato contro di Te.
Prima stazione: GESÙ E’ CONDANNATO A MORTE
Mio Gesù, sei ingiustamente condannato a morire sulla Croce. La paura degli ebrei del debole Pilato ti ha condannato. Signore fa che ti riconosca sempre davanti agli uomini e non permettere che la mia vigliacca paura di ciò che essi diranno faccia sì che io ti condanni di nuovo!
Seconda stazione: GESÙ CARICA LA CROCE
Signore, porti a spalla il pesante tronco per insegnarmi a portare ogni giorno le mie croci. Dammi la grazia di abbracciare con amore tutte le sofferenze che Tu mi hai riservato fino alla morte!
Terza stazione: GESÙ CADE LA PRIMA VOLTA
Mio amato Salvatore, più che il peso della Croce sono i miei peccati che ti fanno soffrire tante pene. Che i meriti che guadagnasti per questa caduta mi sostengano nelle tentazioni!
Quarta stazione: GESÙ INCONTRA LA SUA SANTISSIMA MADRE
Quanta pena hai sperimentato in questo incontro con la tua Santissima Madre sulla via del dolore! Il tuo sguardo fu un'altra spada che attraversò il cuore di Maria. Mio Dio, concedimi la grazia di avere una vera devozione per la Mater Dolorosa!
Quinta stazione: IL CIRENEO AIUTA A PORTARE LA CROCE DEL SIGNORE
Signore Gesù Cristo, Simone di Cirene è costretto ad aiutarti a portare l'opprimente legno che deve darti morte. Che io non rifiuti la mia croce! Anzi, che ogni giorno io compia la tua Volontà senza ritardi, senza riserve, per sempre, per amore!
Sesta stazione: LA VERONICA ASCIUGA IL VISO DI GESÙ
Imprimi, mio Redentore, sulle pieghe della mia anima, il tuo divino viso, ricoperto di sudore e di sangue, affinché non dimentichi mai che furono i miei peccati quelli che ti causarono tanta afflizione!
Settima stazione: GESÙ CADE LA SECONDA VOLTA
Torni a cadere perché io torno a peccare. Tante volte mi hai perdonato e sono tornato ad offenderti. Per i meriti di questa nuova caduta, aiutami, Signore, ad alzarmi anche se cado e aiutami a perseverare nel tuo amore fino alla morte.
Ottava stazione: GESÙ INCONTRA LE DONNE DI GERUSALEMME
"Non piangete per me, ma per voi e per i vostri figli". È il tuo ultimo avvertimento sulla terra. Signore mio, così mi fai capire la gran punizione che merita il peccato. Dammi la grazia di piangere le mie mancanze per averti offeso; più per amore che per paura!
Nona stazione: GESÙ CADE LA TERZA VOLTA
Estrema è la tua debolezza, Signore, ed eccessiva la crudeltà dei tuoi boia che ti calpestano e ti umiliano. Insegnami a vincere i rispetti umani ed a trarre vantaggio dalle umiliazioni che mi sono offerte!
Decima stazione: GESÙ VIENE SPOGLIATO DALLE SUE VESTI
Con gran violenza i soldati ti strappano le vesti incollate alle tue piaghe e la tua nudità rimane esposta davanti alla moltitudine. Innocente Gesù: aiutami a staccarmi dai beni della terra ed a piangere le impurità per le quali pagasti un prezzo così alto!
Undicesima stazione: GESÙ INCHIODATO SULLA CROCE
Il martello cade e trafiggano con chiodi le tue mani ed i tuoi piedi. Mani che benedirono e guarirono; piedi che percorsero le strade per cercare il peccatore. Signore: che anch’io mi lasci inchiodare con gioia al legno della Croce e che non ti abbandoni mai!
Dodicesima stazione: MUORE IL SIGNORE SULLA CROCE
Ecco la grande prova dell'amore del mio Dio. Quanto ti costò, mio Salvatore, conquistare il cuore di questo verme della terra! E, dopo tanto soffrire, dammi la grazia di morire abbracciato a Te e consumato dal tuo amore.
Tredicesima stazione: DISCENDONO IL CORPO DI GESÙ E LO CONSEGNANO A SUA MADRE
Santa Maria, tu che sei la più afflitta di tutte le madri, ispirami il dolore dei miei peccati che furono la causa della morte del tuo divin Figlio e della spada che oltrepassò il tuo Cuore Immacolato.
Quattordicesima stazione: DANNO SEPOLTURA AL CORPO DI GESÙ
Vedo ora, Signore, che sei il seme di grano che cade nella terra per darmi Vita in abbondanza. Insegnami a negare ogni giorno la mia volontà ed il mio giudizio per poter dare così frutti di santità per la tua maggior gloria.
Si recita un Padre Nostro, Ave Maria e Gloria per le intenzioni del Sommo Pontefice, per guadagnare le sante indulgenze. La Via Crucis gode di "indulgenza plenaria" se si recita davanti a stazioni legittimamente erette.
Begin with the Sign of the Cross, pray the Act of Contrition Act of Contrition, and follow with this Opening Prayer for the Stations:
My Lord Jesus Christ, with infinite love Thou hast followed the Way to Calvary to redeem me from the sins with which I have offended Thee. Grant me, I beg Thee, the grace to meditate with true sorrow on all the sufferings Thou hast endured for me.
Most Holy Mary, Mater Dolorosa, teach me to have the same feelings that thou hadst during the Passion of thy Son, that I may learn from the book of the Cross the art of loving God. Amen.

First Station: Jesus is Condemned to Death
Dear Jesus, Thou art unjustly condemned to die upon the Cross. It is Pilate’s fear of the Jews that condemns Thee. Lord, let me acknowledge Thee always before men! Do not allow me to condemn Thee anew out of a cowardly fear of what people might say!
Second Station: Jesus Carries His Cross
Lord, Thou hast carried the heavy Wood of the Cross to teach me to bear my own crosses each day. Grant me the grace to embrace with love, unto death, all the sufferings that Thou hast prepared for me!
Third Station: Jesus Falls the First Time
My Beloved Savior, it is the burden of my sins, more than the weight of the Cross, that makes Thee suffer so much pain. May the merits that Thou hast gained through this fall sustain me in my temptations!
Fourth Station: Jesus Meets His Blessed Mother
How painful was Thine encounter with Thy Blessed Mother in this way of bitter sorrow! Thy gaze was like another sword that pierced Mary’s heart. My Lord, grant me the grace to obtain true devotion to the Mater Dolorosa!
Fifth Station: Simon of Cyrene Helps to Carry the Cross of the Lord
Lord Jesus Christ, Simon of Cyrene is forced to help Thee bear the heavy Wood of the Cross that will cause Thy death. May I never refuse my cross! Instead, may I fulfill Thy Will each day without delay, unreservedly, forever, out of love!
Sixth Station: Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus
My dear Redeemer, imprint Thy divine Countenance—bathed in sweat and blood—upon the folds of my soul. May I never forget that my sins were the cause of Thy bitter pain.
Seventh Station: Jesus Falls the Second Time
Thou fallest once more, because I sin yet again. Thou hast forgiven me so many times and I have offended Thee time and again. By the merits of this new fall, help me Lord, to rise again each time I fall, and thus to persevere in Thy love until I die.
Eighth Station: Jesus Meets the Women of Jerusalem
“Do not weep for me; weep instead for yourselves and for your children.” My Lord, this is Thy last admonition on earth. With this warning, Thou hast indicated the great punishment that sin deserves. Grant me the grace of weeping for having offended Thee, tears out of love more than out of fear!
Ninth Station: Jesus Falls the Third Time
Great is Thy weakness, Lord, and excessive is the cruelty of Thine executioners that trample on and humiliate Thee. Teach me how to triumph over human respect and to profit from the humiliations that befall me!
Tenth Station: Jesus is Stripped of His Garments
With great violence, the soldiers tear away the garments attached to Thy body, exposing Thy nakedness before the crowd. Most innocent Jesus, help me to detach myself from the things of this earth. Grant me tears of sorrow on account of the impurities for which Thou hast paid such a high price.
Eleventh Station: Jesus is Nailed to the Cross
The hammer pounds and cruel nails pierce Thy hands and feet: hands that blessed and healed; feet that walked the earth’s paths to search for sinners. Lord, may I be nailed gladly to the Wood of the Cross and never again abandon Thee!
Twelfth Station: Jesus Dies upon the Cross
Behold the greatest proof of the love of my God! How much it cost Thee, my Savior, to conquer the heart of this worm! And after so much suffering, grant me the grace to die embracing Thee, consumed by Thy love.
Thirteenth Station: The Body of Jesus is Taken Down from the Cross and Laid in the Arms of His Mother
O Mary Most Holy, who art the most afflicted of all mothers, obtain for me true sorrow for my sins which were the cause of thy divine Son’s death and of the sword that pierced thine Immaculate Heart.
Fourteenth Station: Jesus is Laid in the Sepulcher
Now I realize, Lord, that Thou art the grain of wheat that falls into the earth to give me abundant life. Teach me to deny my own will and judgment daily so that I may yield fruits of sanctity for Thy greater glory.
In order to gain the holy indulgences, pray the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be for the intentions of the Holy Father. A plenary indulgence is granted the Christian faithful who devoutly make the Stations of the Cross before stations which have been lawfully erected.
